Steven King

Steven King, 1994 USA National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion, performs in concert, at Taylor Guitar clinics, and for private parties (both on solo guitar and leading his dance band, the Steven King Ensemble.  King has played guitar for 35 of his 48 years, and playing alone, sounds like a trio, with his self-developed solo acoustic fingerstyle guitar technique featuring his "bass expansion" method of playing simultaneous walking bass lines, melodies, rhythms, and chords.  His 3000+ repertoire includes originals, standards, contemporary tunes, jazz, classical and show tunes from Broadway musicals and television.

Steven King, born in New York on November 16, 1952, grew up in Los Angeles, and has made the Seattle area his home for the last decade.  He studied jazz, arranging and guitar in college in the 70's, and developed his unique guitar style in the 80's, which won him the National Championship at Winfield, Kansas in 1994 (he will be competing for the same title again in September 2000).  Among his signature jazz tunes are Birdland, Sing Sing Sing, In the Mood, Four Brothers, Rhapsody in Blue, Tico Tico, Brazil, Stars and Stripes Forever, Blue Rondo A La Turk.  Among his dozens of Beatles tunes, often performed in super Beatle medleys, are Blackbird, Drive My Car, Day Tripper, Lady Madonna, And Your Bird Can Sing, When I'm 64, Penny Lane, I Am the Walrus, Within You Without You, and many others.

King has performed solo guitar concerts at venues such as the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society convention each summer in Nashville, the Issoudun Guitar Festival in France, and the Woodstock Opera House in Woodstock, IL, east of Chicago.  He appears worldwide performing and lecturing at acoustic guitar concert/clinics as one of only a handful of artist clinicians for the prestigious Taylor Guitar Company.   Nine of his ten CDs as well as his tablature arrangements are available directly by mail and on his web site.  The 10th, Acoustic Swing, recorded in Germany, is available through Acoustic Music Resource.
